What to Expect

Starting therapy, step by step

Not sure how this works? Here's what actually happens between deciding to reach out and sitting down for your first session.

1

Tell Us What You Need

Complete our secure inquiry form, or browse therapist profiles and request a specific clinician directly.

2

Get Connected

Our team reviews therapist fit, current availability, insurance, and any preferences you've shared, and follows up with next steps.

3

Begin Therapy

Meet with your therapist for an initial session, either in our York office or through telehealth, depending on what's available.

All appointment requests are subject to review and confirmation — submitting a request doesn't automatically book a session.

What happens in a first session?

Your first session is typically about 60 minutes and gives your therapist an opportunity to get to know you, understand what is bringing you to therapy, review relevant background, and discuss what you hope to work on. It is also a chance for you to ask questions and get a feel for whether the therapist is a good fit.

Before your first appointment, intake forms will be sent electronically through our SimplePractice EHR system. These forms should be completed within 24 hours of your scheduled intake session. Incomplete intake paperwork may result in cancellation of future appointments until the required forms are completed.

How often will I have sessions?

Most clients start with weekly sessions, though this is discussed and adjusted based on your needs and your therapist's recommendation.

What if I'm not sure this therapist is the right fit?

That's okay, and it's more common than you'd think. You can talk to your therapist directly about it, or reach out to our team and we'll help you find a better match.

What therapy here feels like

You deserve more than a place to talk. You deserve a therapist who listens carefully, understands what matters to you, and helps you identify practical ways to move forward. Therapy at Heart 2 Soul is collaborative, respectful, and tailored to the person — not built around a one-size-fits-all formula.

Feel Understood

Your experiences are taken seriously and treated with respect.

Build Useful Skills

Work with your therapist on strategies that can be used outside the therapy room.

Make Meaningful Progress

Regularly consider what is helping and what may need to change.
